do you viggle?

Do you Viggle? If not, you are missing out! I've gotten some requests to do a post on how it works and tips for getting the most points...

I discovered the Viggle app while watching the Today Show one day...or while I had it on in the background and heard "check out this great, new app!" I'm such a techie geek, so I had to hear what it could be.

Here's the basics...you "check in" to a show while watching TV and you get points. As your points accumulate, you can redeem them for rewards! I have stuck with my favorite $5 Starbucks card, but I've gotten 6 so far! I average about one per week...not bad, right?

The "What's On" Screen will show you which shows have extra bonus points for that day. You get the bonus points, plus one point per minute of the show. If the show offers the game of viggle {it's form of trivia about the show}, you can earn 25 points/question you get right, 5 just for guessing. So... for Around the World, you get 360 points just for "checking in". If you play viggle, you could get 100s of more points.

With in the "What's On" Screen are other shows with bonus points that you can set to remind yourself to watch; there are usually multiple 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm shows. There are also ads that you can watch for bonus points. This Spanish Maid in Manhattan gets you 30 points for "watching" a 10 second ad.

If you click on one of the bonus shows, sometimes there are other ads. Men at Work had a 10 second preview for 15 points, just by clicking on it. Snow White and the Huntsman is running 50-100 point ads as is Burger King.

Once you're ready to "check in", click on the Check in screen, and tap to check in. The app listens to your TV and checks you in. You will have to confirm because sometimes it isn't right, or doesn't hear your TV. After 2 tries, you can manually write in the show. It will only find shows that are currently on air. If you are watching a dvr-ed show, you will have to get the app to confirm that's what is on. As you can see on my screen, I checked in to Morning Express with Robin Meade. She's on from 6a-12p...that's 360 points! C and I are currently watching Jake on Disney, so once you've checked in, you can change the channel.

The last screen is the rewards screen. I just redeem Sbux, but there are Old Navy cards, Banana, Fandango, Sephora, iTunes, and even a MacBook...but that's 3.7 million points! I currently have roughly 3850 points. I redeemed a sbux card yesterday, so accrued a ton last night. We played NBA viggle, as well as Glee viggle. I checked in to the NBA game, received 300 bonus points and 180 for "watching". Today I plan on checking in to Glee, RHOC, and Preg in Heels via my DVR for their bonus points.

Here are some tips, and if you have more, please let me know!
*You have to stay "checked in" for at least 10 mins to receive bonus points on a show. For instance, if you check into Glee at 8pm, you can't check in to DWTS until at least 810 in order to receive bonus points. I've never understood this. I stay checked in to one show for the whole time and dvr the other shows. You'll see that most of the shows that have bonus points are ones you probably watch/dvr any ways, so you aren't doing anything more then what you would normally do, besides "checking in". I also want to get the most points possible. Why get only 10 when you can get 60?

*Check in to HLN Morning Express when you get up. Its on all morning. At noon, HLN has another show from 12-5p...room for more points. Confession, I've watched HLN since the Casey Anthony trial, so I actually like watching it...or having it on in the background.

*Play Viggle. Playing and getting the answer wrong gets you 5 points/question. Getting it right is 25! I love trivia, so I like this.

*Click on the ads. If you close out of the app, more ads will appear.

*You have 24 hours to watch a show and receive bonus points. If you DVR a show from the night before, you can get the points, but just make sure it's within 24 hours.

*You don't have to be in front of the tv to check in. Click check in, and after two times, type in the show you want to check in to. It has to be on air though.

*Sharing what you're watching on twitter or fb gets you 5 points.

*Viggle has a blog they update daily with tips on what to watch!

*If you haven't joined and would like to....here's the link!

It's mindless and actually pretty ridiculous that I "check in", but I don't like to spend money on starbucks when we have a great coffee maker here, but.....if someone wants to give me $5/week for it, I'll gladly oblige. Daniel says it's like gambling for tv...there's a game to see how many points you can get each day! Supposedly there are 6000 points possible every day. I'm at a loss to figure that one out. I can't imagine how unless you are checking in from 10p-6a while you're sleeping.

I wasn't paid for this post, I just wanted to help out those who like to be rewarded for "watching" tv. And clearly I have too much time on my hands, or have spent too much time in the doctor's office with kidney stones the past 2 weeks....I promise I'm not watching TV all day long, I'm just a schemer! :)
